Senior Project Director Allyson Baughman leads the Health Equity Research Lab. A thought leader and policy specialist, she guides and oversees initiatives that advance research, policy, and practice to promote health equity.

Allyson bring to her work nearly two decades of expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods and analysis, including implementation science on a range of public health issues, such as food and housing insecurity, homelessness, youth violence, and substance use. She has led research and program evaluation efforts for numerous federally funded initiatives, serving as principal investigator for projects such as the SURE Housing Initiative under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program and evaluations of housing programs with the Boston Housing Authority.

Allyson has held leadership roles in designing evaluation plans, developing data collection strategies, and providing technical assistance to public health practitioners nationwide. She has extensive experience directing multi-site evaluations and implementation support initiatives, particularly related to health interventions for vulnerable populations, including people with HIV.

Allyson currently serves as the principal investigator for Boston University for the National Center on improving the system of services for children and youth with special health care needs. She is an expert in public policy, particularly social and economic policies. She has presented extensively at national conferences and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications. In 2018, she received the Excellence in Writing Award for Qualitative Nursing Research from the Oncology Nursing Society.

Allyson holds a Master of Public Health in social and behavioral sciences from Boston University. She earned a PhD in public policy and public affairs from the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her doctoral dissertation examined the impact of U.S. welfare reform legislation in 1996 on the healthy eating behaviors of low-income single mothers.
