Senior Project Manager

I work in global health to help build systems that make care more equitable, efficient, and accessible—so that resources reach the people who need them most, and every data point can help drive smarter decisions and fairer outcomes.

As a Senior Project Manager, Monica plays a critical role in shaping research priorities and overseeing project planning and implementation. She facilitates coordination between the research team, external partners, and funding agencies to ensure seamless execution of project activities. In addition, Monica contributes substantively to research efforts, including literature reviews, data analysis, and co-authorship of peer-reviewed publications and reports.

Monica is a global health professional with experience managing high-impact projects at the intersection of health systems strengthening, research, and policy. As Senior Project Manager at the Institute for Global Health and Development at Brandeis University, she oversaw two major grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ensuring effective implementation, fiscal compliance, and alignment with partner and stakeholder priorities. Her work includes leading collaborative research efforts, producing technical publications, and managing stakeholder engagement through global initiatives such as the UNAIDS report Equity in the Global HIV Response.

In her role, Monica has played a pivotal role in managing a grant related to the activity-based costing and management (ABC/M) initiative, across sub-Saharan Africa. She led the implementation of a streamlined, low-cost update of ABC/M data in Tanzania, overseeing facility visits and enhancing the accuracy and usability of health service costing information. She also designed and executed a data use conference in Uganda, convening stakeholders from multiple countries to promote regional learning and collaboration. In addition, Monica supported the management of the Secretariat for both the ABC/M and Equity Technical Working Groups, facilitating communication among global partners to advance the use of costing and equity data in health planning.

Previously, Monica served as Assistant Director of the MS in Global Health Policy and Management program at Brandeis, where she contributed to curriculum development, student mentorship, and academic program operations. In this position she also supported research on breast cancer care delivery systems, deepening her commitment to evidence-based health system improvements. She has also served as a Research Assistant at the University of California, San Francisco’s Institute for Health Policy Studies, where she contributed to school-based public health research focused on promoting healthy beverage consumption among children through policy and programmatic interventions.

Monica holds an MA degree in Sociology from Stanford University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the Yale School of Public Health, where she concentrated in Social and Behavioral Sciences. While at Yale, she was a fellow with the Global Health Leadership Institute, where she assisted a delegation from Trinidad and Tobago in implementing a pilot electronic medical records system to strengthen health system capacity. She also served as a

Research Assistant at the Yale Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, supporting research on anti-obesity initiatives and food policy, with a focus on advancing public health, nutrition, and social equity.
