As the effects of climate change accelerate, the federal government is moving to weaken key environmental safeguards. In a recent op-ed for the Boston Globe, Dr. Vanessa Kerry, Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health (CISWH) advisory board member, CEO of Seed Global Health, and World Health Organization Special Envoy for Climate Change and Health shares how dismantling EPA climate regulations threatens American lives, particularly among marginalized communities. Dr. Kerry calls for immediate collective action to defend environmental protections against politically motivated rollbacks.
Excerpt from “Gutting climate rules will sacrifice American lives” by Vanessa Kerry. Published in the Boston Globe:
“Cutting regulation isn’t saving ordinary Americans money; it’s saving big business money. The EPA publicly endorsed this very point in June, declaring that proposed regulation cuts for power plants “would save the power sector $19 billion in regulatory costs over two decades beginning in 2026, or about $1.2 billion a year.
The sad truth is the administration is abandoning its responsibility to act, and American citizens and people around the globe will pay the price. Denying the incontrovertible truth about climate change risks more death and damage to property and business.”
