Public Health & Safety
We believe that government organizations, philanthropic foundations, and non-profits must invest to support the right of all people to live in safe and healthy neighborhoods.
By integrating public health and social work principles with grassroots and grasstops partners, we lay the foundation for resilient communities, where everyone can prosper in safe, healthy neighborhoods free from violence and environmental hazards.
It requires elevating the voices of those most affected by health and well-being threats. This work moves between individual advocacy and broad policy reform, tackling issues such as environmental toxins in our water and air, workplace hazards, income and food insecurity, and the social drivers that shape health outcomes.
Drawing on our Social Work Innovation, Global Health and Public Health, Powerbuilding & Leadership, and Health Equity Research labs, we co-design and implement domestic and global research, programs, and policies that advance equitable physical and mental health. These efforts include:

Culturally responsive maternal-child initiatives

Trauma-informed training in Uganda and Nicaragua SURE Housing interventions for people living with HIV

Resources for Title V staff and families of children with special healthcare needs
We partner with grassroots campaigns, peer navigators, disability advocates, and refugee leaders to remove language, cultural, and bureaucratic barriers.
By integrating public health science with social work values, we create frameworks for resilient communities, where prevention and protection go hand in hand. From expanding harm-reduction services and community-led violence interruption initiatives to enforcing housing codes and improving emergency preparedness, we are committed to ensuring that every neighborhood is equipped to prevent injury, disease, and trauma.
Our commitment to public health and safety transcends borders. Disease outbreaks, climate disasters, and environmental injustices know no boundaries and require practices and policies rooted in our shared humanity. We strive to build a world where everyone can live, work, and play.
