Tami Gouveia, DrPH, MSW, MPH, Director of the Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health (CISWH) at Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW), has received the Beverly Ross Fliegel Social Policy and Change Award from the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Recipients of this prestigious award are recognized for:

  • Demonstrated exemplary leadership
  • Initiative in responding to social needs
  • Contributions to the development of programs, services, or policies that promote equity and inclusion
  • Visible public advocacy for justice in communities and society

Dr. Gouveia’s body of work reflects each of these qualities. As a social worker, public health professional, and policy leader, she has dedicated her career to addressing inequities, advancing human rights, and shaping systems to improve the well-being of individuals and communities.

The annual award honors the memory of Beverly Ross Fliegel, the first executive director of NASW’s Eastern Massachusetts Chapter and a passionate advocate for historically marginalized communities. Beverly died of cancer at the age of 42, and the award continues her legacy by recognizing leaders who exemplify her commitment to social justice, equity and social change.
