As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on the work that strengthened CISWH’s contribution to social work and health. This year brought new resources, new research, and increased public awareness of issues affecting communities served by social work, public health, and health. We will continue to build on these developments as we focus on improving access, accountability, and equity.
The Beyond 2025 Action Hub
We began 2025 with the launch of the Beyond 2025 Action Hub. The Hub provides tools, policy guidance, and accessible analysis to support practitioners, educators, and advocates responding to federal policy activity. It now serves as a resource for those seeking clarity and direction in a time of shifting expectations and processes.
A New Website and Lab Structure to Support Our Work
In 2025, we launched a redesigned CISWH website and a new lab structure to make our work more accessible and easier to navigate. The updated site creates clearer pathways for students, researchers, and partners to access tools, publications, and project updates. Lab pages now organize content around key areas of expertise, improving the ability to find resources aligned with priority topics in health and social care.
A Transformative Gift that Strengthens Research Capacity
CISWH received a two-million-dollar gift supporting a multi-year effort focused on advancing the economic case for social work. This investment will generate important evidence that can inform policy design, resource allocation, and workforce planning in social work and health.
National Visibility Through Research and Practice Partnerships
CISWH’s collaboration with the Amal Alliance received feature coverage on MassLive that highlighted trauma-informed programming for children in transitional housing. Senior Project Director Meg Comeau also contributed expertise to national reporting on Medicaid policy, bringing attention to how Medicaid spending impacts children and families.
Growth in Global Health Leadership
This year, we welcomed Dr. Allyala Nandakumar and his research team. Their work brings new depth to CISWH’s global health portfolio. The team currently examines how shifts in United States foreign policy influence HIV treatment, PEPFAR stability, and health access in countries with limited resources.
We also welcomed visiting scholar Dr. Marianne Nilsen, whose research explores aging, technology, and emerging innovation in long-term care.
Honoring Leadership in Policy and Practice
CISWH Executive Director Dr. Tami Gouveia was recognized with the NASW-MA Beverly Ross Fliegel Social Policy and Change Award for her leadership in shaping policies centered on equity and community wellbeing.
Celebrating 10 Years of CISWH
This year, CISWH marked its 10th anniversary with a campus event recognizing a decade of research, partnership, and leadership in social work and public health. The celebration highlighted the center’s growth and the role of students, staff, and collaborators in shaping its impact.
The progress made this year reflects our longstanding commitment to research, partnership, and health equity. In 2026, CISWH will continue to amplify the impact of social work worldwide and advocate for health equity and justice.
We extend our appreciation to the students, researchers, community organizations, funders, and collaborators who contributed to this work in 2025.
